Ansarallah seizes Yemen's west coast as Saudi pipeline burns and Brent hits $109
||3 min read
Ansarallah collapsed the PLC/Saudi-backed west-coast front in under 24 hours, taking Mokha, Dhubab, the Hanish islands and the heights over Bab al-Mandab, with Perim/Mayun contested. Hours later, six thermal hotspots and an eight-hour fire appeared on Saudi Arabia's East-West (Abqaiq-Yanbu) pipeline near Medina, the line built to bypass Hormuz. Brent settled near $109, up roughly 11%; US diesel crossed $6/gallon for the first time.
What changed on Yemen's west coast?
Cross-bloc corroborated (Ansarallah media, Reuters, @Middle_East_Spectator, PLC commanders): Mokha fell 02:35-03:12Z; Dhubab, the PLC's last Red Sea port, and Jabal al-Umari fell 13:26-14:34Z.
PLC Sixth Brigade's Abu al-Baraa said forces "fled the West Coast front and betrayed us"; Giants Brigades commander Gen. Yousef al-Sharaji resigned. Territory claims of 2,600 then 4,402 sq km are Ansarallah upper bounds.
Island captures (Hanish al-Kabir/al-Saghir, Suyul Hanish, Jabal Zuqar, Abu Ali) are corroborated by Reuters and Tasnim; Perim/Mayun remains contested. Sanaa says navigation is safe and only Saudi-flagged shipping is banned.
STC forces blocked withdrawing PLC fighters from Aden/Lahij unless disarmed (corroborated); reported STC-Saudi clashes are single-source (@rnintel). Saree claimed 64 Saudi raids in 24 hours.
Is Iran directing it?
Reuters, citing Iranian officials and five Yemeni-government sources, reported the IRGC Quds Force, reportedly under Abdolreza Shahlai, urged the Mokha seizure with intelligence, equipment and promised funds. Iran denies it; Tasnim explicitly denied military support.
CNN separately reported 100-200 US advisers in Saudi Arabia providing real-time targeting, and US assessments of "hundreds" of IRGC personnel in Yemen. Two outlets, different sourcing: meaningful, not conclusive.
What hit Saudi energy?
NASA FIRMS/Sentinel data showed six hotspots above 70MW near Medina at 21:56Z; @rnintel attributed it to pumping station 8. No Saudi confirmation, no Yemeni claim. Fire near-certain, cause unattributed; the "80km burn area" figure is single-source and implausible.
OPEC data: Saudi output fell to 6.238m bpd in August, down 1.9m bpd, lowest since 1990; exports ~3.2m bpd (Kpler, 13-year low). Four more Jazan tanks destroyed (14 since July). Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki confirmed missile/drone hits and 73 wounded.
How stressed are markets and Hormuz?
IMF's Kozack put Hormuz traffic at ~10% of pre-conflict volume; Gulf of Oman ship-to-ship transfers hit 7.15m bpd, up 56% month-on-month (FT/TankerTrackers). 30-year Treasury at 5.36%.
IRGC Navy claimed destroying a US Saildrone USV; UKMTO reported two vessels struck by four projectiles near Khasab, unattributed. CENTCOM says it rerouted 96-97 vessels.
Where does the US-Iran file stand?
CBS reported nine US aircraft damaged at Azraq; Trump flatly denied it: "No damage. Nothing happened." WSJ and NYT report Vance and Rubio warning the war could run past January 2029 amid Patriot stock depletion.
WSJ (single-outlet) says Iran resumed missile production at Khojir and new sites. Rezaei warned the IAEA resolution pushes states toward NPT withdrawal; Grossi confirmed Pickaxe Mountain construction but no inspection.
Lebanon?
The IDF detonated ~1,100 tons of explosives on the Ali al-Taher tunnel complex, a magnitude 4.1 event per USGS. A Rome negotiating round is reported for Tuesday/Wednesday.
